My Weekly Pet Peeve........

This is probably my least favorite chore of the week-cleaning out the refrigerator. The multiple containers filled with leftovers. Oh, and when I open some containers and take a whiff I am grossed out by the smell of the expired contents. These are the forgotten leftovers that now have a possible medicinal cure for the common cold incubating inside of my Tupperware container. The next stop for this container is the dishwasher because it needs an extra strength cleaner and serious sanitizing.

It pains me every week that we consume so much food yet we dispose of too much at the end of the week. I wish there was a remedy for just making enough and no leftovers!

I totally understand where you are coming from. I can't stand going through leftovers either. I try to cook just enough and that's when everyone wants seconds and thirds. Lol! Then when I cook more thsn enough it goes to waste! What gives! :-) All I can say is I try!

We have leftover Thusday night. I cook Sunday thru Wednesday (unless there were no leftovers then I'm forced to cook on Thursday also) and the hubs takes his lunch to work so that gets rid of some of the extras. Then when the teenager gets in from school sometimes he finishes off whatever is still in the fridge.

Also, sometimes I have a meal theme for the week and by Thursday we have a stew from what we have left.

I try to cook two days, and then leftovers, or wait to later in the week, and have leftovers one night. But we still end up with things leftover. And I've thrown away more food than I care to think about!

Recently, I this week, I came up with an idea I hope will work. When I cook something with alot of leftovers, or something my family doesn't like, on my Project What's For Dinner, I'm going to pass it on.

I have a friend who's a single mom, who likes my cooking, and welcomes different things. And my daughter has a friend, who is married with three kids, and loves dinner she doesn't have to cook.

We'll see if that keeps me from throwing food and money in the disposal, or trash.
