New Exhibition "Audacious Freedom: African Americans in Philadelphia 1776-1876"

The African American Museum in Philadelphia presents a new exhibition "Audacious Freedom: African Americans in Philadelphia 1776 – 1876", premieres on June 19, 2009. Here is a snippet of the press release:

"Audacious Freedom gives us the opportunity to celebrate the richness of the culture and experiences of people of African descent", explained AAMP’s President and CEO Romona Riscoe Benson. "Philadelphia was an economically strong, socially dynamic and culturally cosmopolitan environment during this period. People of color played a vital role as entrepreneurs, craftsmen and advocates for social justice. Telling their story is a critically important part of the Museum’s mission and responsibility to this community and to the overall fabric of the role of African Americans in American history. "

The museum is located at 701 Arch Street, Philadelphia, PA 19106 Ph: 215-574-0380
